Urban development, powerful storms, and coastal erosion all contribute to the loss of this vital ecosystem. Additionally, unsustainable practices like shrimp farming, saltwater intrusion, and excessive wood extraction exacerbate the situation. rtunately, local authorities recognize the importance of the mangroves. Embankment projects to prevent landslides are ongoing, but the primary focus is on mangrove restoration. Since 2010, the Kien Giang government has successfully spearheaded the planting of hundreds of hectares of new mangrove forests. This large-scale initiative offers a glimmer of hope for the future of the coastline and the communities that depend on it.
