A young Pà Thèn girl shyly poses for the camera in traditional attire while participating in the Pà Thèn Fire Dance Festival in Chiêm Hóa (Tuyên Quang). This festival is a primitive belief system, a faith in the spirit world and supernatural forces. According to tradition, at the beginning of spring, the shamans in the village hold the Fire Dance (fire-praying) ceremony to recruit apprentices and pass on their shamanic skills.
