“Grandmother and the soul of Vietnamese Tet” is not only the image of a grandmother sitting next to a pot of red-hot banh chung, but also a symbol of reunion, of a long-standing tradition preserved through many generations. In the flickering fire and billowing smoke, we seem to smell the scent of dong leaves, sticky rice, fatty meat mixed with the warmth of family. The image of a grandmother working hard by the fire evokes childhood memories, where Tet not only has the colors of peach and apricot blossoms, but also the flavor of green banh chung and overflowing love. This is the soul of Vietnamese Tet - rustic, warm, connecting children and grandchildren in the family home, preserving national identity through each way of life, each pot of banh chung in spring.
