My grandfather was a veteran of the Vietnam War against the US. He served as a medic during the war and saved many of his comrades, contributing to the victory in the liberation of Vietnam. He passed away in 2024 due to old age. The photo above shows the last time he attended his wife's birthday. I feel very fortunate to have this photo, because no matter how much money I have later, I probably won't be able to get another one like it. My grandfather's name was Nguyen Tat Thu. He was probably one of the longest-time viewers of the 7 PM daily news broadcast because he always wanted to hear news about Vietnam, perhaps just like when he was a soldier, always waiting for news of Vietnam's victory. He was always proud to be Vietnamese until the last moment of his life, and always taught his children and grandchildren to live up to the legacy of "veteran descendants," to always bring glory to their family and to the country of Vietnam.
