Vietnam's railway system is one of Vietnam's oldest industries. Immediately after the success of the August Revolution, on August 28, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh officially signed a decision establishing the Ministry of Transport and Public Works under the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, which included the Railway Department – the state agency responsible for managing and operating Vietnam's railways. From then on, the Vietnamese railway system truly became the property of the Vietnamese people.
