"No opera can be a festival" is a saying passed down by the people of Tho Ha village, Van Ha ward, Bac Ninh province, showing the importance of the art of Tuong in the cultural life here. Tho Ha village is one of the few places in the North that still preserves this unique traditional theatrical art form. Tho Ha Tuong belongs to the genre of royal Tuong (or scholarly Tuong), deeply influenced by feudal theater. The content of the plays often revolves around the themes of good and evil, neutrality and intermediary, with profound educational value on morality and ethics. Each character has a unique way of dressing up, with the strokes and colors on their faces expressing their personality, status, and role.
