Located in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City, Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery is one of the largest and most beautiful Zen monasteries in Vietnam. Construction began in 2012 and was inaugurated in 2014. This is a famous spiritual destination that attracts many Buddhists and tourists to worship and visit. History and architecture The Zen monastery was built according to the Buddhist architecture of the Ly - Tran dynasty, with structures made of ironwood and red bricks, bearing a bold, solemn and ancient character. The entire Zen monastery campus is more than 50 hectares wide, including many constructions such as: • Main hall: Place to worship Buddha Shakyamuni, built in the style of overlapping roofs, curved roofs, covered with fish-scale tiles. • Ancestral hall: Place to worship the founders of the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect. • La Han corridor: Long corridor with 18 elaborately carved La Han statues. • Bell tower: Place to hang the Great Bell weighing 1.5 tons. • Drum loft: Place where thunder drums are placed. • Statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara: The statue of Avalokitesvara is made of granite, 18m high. • Maitreya Buddha statue: The Maitreya Buddha statue lies next to the lotus pond, bringing peace and joy. Spiritual activities Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery is a place to organize many spiritual activities for monks, nuns, Buddhists and tourists. Here, you can participate in meditation courses, listen to Dharma, have discussions, and learn about Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect. These activities help people find peace of mind, relieve stress and gain a deeper insight into life. Visiting information • Opening hours: The Zen monastery is open to everyone free of charge, usually from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. • Dress code: When coming to the Zen monastery, you should wear polite, discreet clothes, avoid wearing clothes that are too short or revealing. • How to get there: You can get to the monastery by motorbike, car or bus. • Address: 12/11 Hamlet 4, Tran Van Giau Street, An Phu Tay Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.
