Water caltrop is an aquatic plant, originally grown by people in Lap Vo commune, Dong Thap province in rotation to replace rice during the flood season. Later, when realizing that the economic efficiency of water caltrop could be higher than rice cultivation, many farmers here switched to growing water caltrop all year round. People here mainly grow Taiwanese water caltrop because it is easy to grow and requires little care.
