Phu Hai Prison in Con Dao is one of the outstanding historical relics, associated with the painful but also heroic memories of the Vietnamese people. Located right in the center of Con Dao town, Phu Hai Prison was built in 1862, the oldest and largest prison in Con Dao built by the French colonialists to detain revolutionary soldiers. With its solid architecture of stone, brick, high walls, and heavy iron gates, this place used to be a "hell on earth" for tens of thousands of patriotic prisoners. Inside the camp, visitors can see cramped, dark cells, a brutal system of shackles, and especially the rice mills - where prisoners had to work hard and were subjected to harsh supervision and torture. Today, Phu Hai Prison is not only a living proof of the crimes of colonialism and imperialism, but also an indomitable symbol of the resilient will and spirit of fighting for national independence and freedom. This is an important historical destination, helping today's and future generations better understand the value of peace and appreciate the great sacrifices of our ancestors.
