The Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee's base area was once known by the familiar name My Phuoc Base. This area was previously just a vast, overgrown wasteland spanning thousands of hectares before being discovered and reclaimed by the people. However, in 1945, when the French colonialists once again opened fire, attempting to retake Saigon, the Soc Trang Party Committee, along with the army and people, united to prepare for resistance against the invaders. Initially, the revolutionary forces temporarily retreated to remote, rugged rural areas to establish a strong base and consolidate their strength. At that time, the My Phuoc melaleuca forest was chosen by the Provincial Party Committee as the location for building a revolutionary base for a long-term resistance. Its rugged terrain and numerous canals were ideal for establishing a revolutionary base and setting up offensive positions to eliminate the enemy.
