Initially, the revolutionary forces temporarily retreated to remote rural areas with rugged terrain to make a solid base and consolidate their forces. At that time, the My Phuoc Melaleuca forest was chosen by the Provincial Party Committee as the place to build a revolutionary base for a long-term resistance. Because this place has rugged terrain and many canals, it is very convenient to build a revolutionary base and establish an offensive position to destroy the enemy.
