With a history spanning over a century, salt production has become a unique cultural identity for the people of Bac Lieu (now Ca Mau province). Salt harvesting is arduous work, primarily done by men, but women, undeterred by the hardship, contribute to preserving this traditional local craft, which has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.
