Coconut peeling is a labor-intensive job, but many women participate because the wages are higher than other jobs in the coconut market. However, coconut peeling often faces dangers from sharp blades, which can easily lead to injury and bleeding. According to Ms. Lien, the coconut peeling tool is the main tool used in the coconut peeling profession. It has a blade similar to a sharpened spear (a type of knife used by gardeners in the Southwest), the blade is longer than 20cm, the handle is made of wood, and the tip is sharp. No one remembers which ancestors invented the coconut peeling tool or when it was created, but this tool is present throughout the coconut land of Ben Tre, effectively serving the coconut peeling profession.
