Tri An Lake, a vast artificial reservoir on the Dong Nai River, is more than just a source of hydroelectric power; it's a dynamic landscape, particularly captivating during its green algae season. Built between 1984 and 1987, this expansive lake, covering 323 square kilometers across several districts of Dong Nai Province, takes on a unique and mesmerizing character from July to October. During these months, as the water levels recede, a vibrant layer of green algae blankets the lake's surface. This natural phenomenon transforms the water into a breathtaking canvas, its hues shifting with the play of sunlight – from deep emeralds to brighter, almost luminous greens. Far from being a hindrance, this prolific algae growth serves as a vital natural food source, sustaining the lake's abundant aquatic life, from shrimp to fish. It is during this period that Tri An Lake truly reveals its most iconic imagery. Fishing boats, with their distinct, often brightly colored hulls, navigate through this verdant expanse. Their paths cut striking, sinuous "highways" across the emerald waters, creating a surreal and beautiful contrast that is a photographer's dream. Nestled on the shores of this remarkable lake is Ben Nom 2 Village, where the rhythm of life is deeply intertwined with the water. Here, local fishermen employ a fascinating and effective technique: they meticulously arrange their fishing nets on two extended bamboo arms at the front of their boats. When viewed from above, these spread nets create a striking silhouette, resembling the elegant tail of a fish. This ingenious method, coupled with the verdant backdrop of the algae-rich lake, paints a vivid picture of the ingenuity and harmony between the people of Ben Nom 2 and their unique environment. For nature lovers seeking a break from urban life, Tri An Lake offers an idyllic, relaxing retreat.
