The flag in the picture is one of the first red flags with a yellow star of our nation, often called the "fat star flag". The flag has a red background symbolizing the revolution and the blood of heroes and martyrs, in the middle is a five-pointed yellow star - symbolizing the solidarity of the five classes of scholars, farmers, workers, merchants and soldiers. The special feature of this flag is that the star is round and plump, different from the sharp star on the current national flag. This is the version of the flag created in 1940, associated with the Southern uprising movement and later chosen by President Ho Chi Minh as the national flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945. The fat star flag is a sacred historical relic, marking the aspiration for independence, freedom and the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people.
