In the past, Gia Rai was a wild land full of swamps with cajuput forests, reeds and wild grass. When the first settlers came here to reclaim the land, they had to cut down trees to make stakes in the mud and then put their crutches on them to build houses to avoid wild animals and poisonous snakes, and that is how the name Noc Nang was born. The place where the uprising of the Muoi Chuc brothers took place in the Noc Nang field (Phong Thanh commune, Gia Rai district, Bac Lieu province) nearly a century ago has now become a national historical and cultural relic, contributing to helping the younger generation better understand the struggle of Southern farmers against the harsh colonial and feudal regime. Also from this place, history recorded an event in 1928 that resonated throughout Indochina, which was the uprising of the Muoi Chuc farmer family against the colonial government and its henchmen. The story of the uprising spirit on Noc Nang field is also known by many people as a historical legend of the reclamation of the South and is used as a model in cinema and reformed art such as the reformed play "Blood on Noc Nang field" by Pham Ngoc Truyen and the movie "Dong Noc Nang".
